NICE TO MEET YOU!
When I was deciding on what to major in college I knew that my love of writing would have to be showcased no matter what I decided to do. In high school I had decided to join the school's newspaper as a reporter. After my first year I was quickly promoted to Managing Editor, as well as being given control over an entire monthly spread. But I knew that was not the type of writing I wanted to pursue, and a family friend who works In Public Relations encouraged me to look into Public Relations and allowed me to shadow her as she worked. That Is when I knew Public Relations had the writing style and creativity element I was looking for.
I am currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations, with a minor in English. I decided to add an English minor my Junior year of undergraduate studies because I saw it as an opportunity to enhance my writing and communication skills.
I have been employed with Barnes and Noble Booksellers for more than two years. In this time I have been able to express my love of writing and books with customers while providing custom recommendations based on what I believe would fit their needs. In this position I have also been able to work with other booksellers to create social media posts for our store's many social accounts.
In the summer of my junior year I was a Marketing Intern with Smoky Mountain Outdoors. Through this internship I learned a lot of important marketing and networking skills. These skills translate well in a future career in public relations. With an emphasis on interpersonal communications I believe this internship furthered the skills I have learned through my education with the University of Tennessee Tombras School of Advertising and Public Relations.
I am currently working as a Social Media Marketing and Communication Intern with Knoxville non-profit Random Acts of Flowers. In this role I create photo, video, and written content for multiple weekly posts across many social media platforms. I am enjoying having the ability to express creativity in a way that brings in donations, recruits volunteers, and sharing Random Acts of Flowers’ mission through initiatives like Special Delivery weeks.
I cannot wait to see where the world of Public Relations is going to take me!
